Aims

·        provide an evaluation of what has been taught and learned, identifying pupils’ strengths and weaknesses;

·        ensure continuity and progression;

·        ensure that there is differentiation in our planning and teaching;

·        identify pupils with special educational needs;

·        inform parents, support agencies LEA and governors;

·        provide pupils with the opportunity to review their work, to self assess and to set future targets;

·        keep a pupil profile which is meaningful, useful consistent and manageable. Above all it should be a working profile for which the children feel a sense of ownership;

·        raise the expectations of pupils, teachers and parents in an effort to achieve the highest possible standards for each child.

Pupil records
·

·        Entry profiles are completed by parent and rising five children before the child starts school and by the teacher during the child’s first half term in school. This is followed up with a discussion between parents and teacher in the first term of entry.

·        Class teachers make formative assessments on the children in their class and maintain personal records.

·        Special Needs forms are maintained on a termly basis so that progress can be carefully monitored and support requested where necessary. All S.E.N. documentation is kept with the special needs register. Individual children’s records are confidential and access is only available to parents who make a request to the Headteacher and/or SENCo.

·        Written reports to parents are sent home in the summer term. The school operates a policy of encouraging parents to talk to staff about their child’s progress on a regular basis and not feeling that they have to wait for an organised child/parent/teacher interview. Years 2 and 6 parents are given EXSA results with an explanation of the meaning of the levels.

·        Pupil’s subject books are a record of work covered. They provide constructive feedback to the pupils through daily marking and show evidence of progress over time. Further details about marking and feedback can be found in the dedicated policy. Books are given to parents at the end of each year.

·        Both summative and formative information is shared between child, parents and teacher at Autumn Term and Spring Term interviews, when individual target setting takes place for the coming months.

·        Class teacher records are confidential to the class teacher and only used to guide planning. They inform the teacher about the appropriateness of the work presented to the whole class, group or individual.

·        Foundation Stage Profiles are begun during the first term at school and continued throughout the Reception year.  Final scores are then sent to the LEA for local and national statistical analysis.

·        All children throughout the school complete an agreed piece of writing in their progress books each term. This work is marked with a National curriculum level and focused targets for improvement.
