Purpose
Physical Education makes a unique contribution to children?s education during all stages of schooling. In Physical Education lessons children learn:

* To be more skilful in the ways they manage their bodies, promote physical development, combined with the thinking involved in making decisions and selecting, refining, judging and adapting movements.
* To apply and adapt a range of physical skills in a variety of settings.
* To develop an appreciation of skilful and creative performances across the areas of activity.
* To understand through personal and practical experience how the body responds to activity, such as pulse rate, perspiration and respiration.
* Through experience, to know about and value the health and social benefits of participation in physical activity while at school and throughout life.
* To develop personal and social competence and the necessary coping skills to manage success and failure in competitive and co-operative situations, and so enhance self esteem.
*To develop problem solving and inter-personal skills.
