In Service Training
Rationale
In a self-renewing school, it is essential that all members of Staff are kept up to date and that they feel valued and supported in their professional development. Back to topAims
At Newton St Cyres Primary school, we aim to ensure progressive school improvement through targeted personal development of every member of staff; implementation of whole school initiatives as identified by Head teacher, Staff and Governors; and the adoption of Government initiatives. In service training supports all the above. Back to topGuidelines
The identified aims will be achieved as follows· OFSTED key issues and national initiatives will be carefully addressed in the annual School Improvement Plan and will provide a focus for in-service training as required.
· Staff will meet to discuss their in-service needs at the start of each Spring term as part of the consultation process which structures the School Improvement Plan. Co-ordinators will consider whole school priorities for their curriculum areas as well as identifying individual needs.
· Co-ordinators will monitor the quality and coverage of curriculum areas which have been seen as priorities for targeted development. Monitoring may include a review of planning, classroom observations and work sampling.
· As part of the Performance Management process, an annual review of each experienced teacher will take place in the Spring Term. Targets taken from this review will be included in the School Improvement Plan for the following year.
· Each member of Staff will be encouraged to continue their professional development to help achieve School Improvement Plan objectives. They may work alongside colleagues, visit other schools and attend subject conferences and courses as appropriate. When relevant, teachers will be asked to give feedback to colleagues at staff meetings.
· Newly Qualified Teachers will be supported during their probationary year through classroom observations, visits to other schools and attendance at professional courses. Their development will be nurtured through the support of the Head teacher and a mentor, both of whom will make regular observations and provide detailed feedback. The NQT will receive 0.1 non-contact time on a regular basis.
· Support Staff will be encouraged to attend courses to develop their skills and supported in personal study that is relevant to their work.
