1 Dec 2007 - ENJOYING ANOTHER CHRISTMAS AT NSC PRIMARY SCHOOL

We like to make each day of Christmas really count at Newton St Cyres Primary, so, during the first week of December, we get out the trees and the decorations, and set our minds to getting the most from the festive time of year. Very quickly, classrooms are transformed into twinkling grottoes, whilst the NSC primary postal service kicks into gear with the delivery of its Christmas cards.  This year, for the first time, the children have had the opportunity to design their own Christmas cards and these have been professionally printed for parents and families to purchase. Children have been very proud to see their creativity in production and rightfully so - some of the designs are truly outstanding!

To get the season off to a good start, we will be taking our youngest children from classes one and two to Pennywell Farm for a fabulous Nativity in the Barn experience. This is something really special, with the children having the opportunity to take part in a retelling of the Christmas Story, complete with live animals and a picturesque setting! To make it even more memorable, the children also get the opportunity to meet Father Christmas (if he’s not too busy) and the visit ends with a tasty Christmas snack before the journey home.

After this, we concentrate on our Christmas production, which will be performed for the local community in the village hall on Wednesday 12 December, starting at .  As I mentioned briefly last month, this year we have chosen an new production called “Panto Pandemonium”, which is a lively festive show featuring many traditional “goodies” and “baddies”. The script is fun from start to finish and the tunes are simple and catchy enough to have you singing them in your sleep. Once again, we have some talented actors and actresses in the making, and everybody has been cast in a role that will stretch them just a little bit further. The children are eager to give their best performances and I think we may well have one or two new stars that will take the audience by surprise with their talents.

Then, one week later, on Tuesday 18 December we will be holding our Christingle and Carol Service in the Parish  Church, starting at around .  We have decided to bring this annual event closer to Christmas this year, to make it even more special – only one week before the big day!  All the children will be taking part, singing a selection of traditional carols as well as new ones that you may not have heard before. If you would like to join us, either for our Christingle or for our Pantomime, we would be very grateful as a lot of hard work goes into making them happen and it is much more rewarding to share this with a good audience.  There are no tickets necessary for either of these afternoon events, so simply turn up and enjoy!

Finally, the last few days of term will be spent having lots of fun! On the Wednesday we will be having our Christmas lunch followed by a professional performance of “The Nutcracker” from the Working Space Theatre Company. Then, on Thursday, both key stages will be enjoying their Christmas parties before the big tidy up before home time on the last day of term!

On behalf of all the Staff and children at the school, may I take this opportunity to wish the readers of the Newton Wonder a very enjoyable Christmas 2007 and a happy and prosperous 2008!
