1 Oct 2001 - IT'S HARVEST TIME AGAIN

We are only a few weeks into the new school year, and already the school is buzzing. All the children have settled well into their new classes, and they have come back with a renewed eagerness to learn. Six new reception children have been welcomed into Class 1. Miss Couch is delighted with the start that they have made, and she is very proud of her new class.

We have welcomed three new members of Staff into school; Miss Drake has already made her mark as our new Class 4 teacher, showing plenty of enthusiasm and true committment to the children of our school. We have also been joined by Mrs Harris, a Learning Support Assistant based in Class 3, and Mrs Bennett, who has joined us to help with lunchtime supervision. We hope they will all be very happy here with us.

Another new face in school this term will be known to many of you. A local musician, Andrew Daldorph has agreed to spend some time with us, and over the last few weeks he has been working with the choir in preparation for our Harvest Festival. As last year, we have decided to have a local event, with fresh produce and groceries as the focus of our celebrations. We have all been learning some new songs and working on an interesting presentation for parents and friends to enjoy.

During the afternoon, the children will be distributing the harvest gifts to our elderly friends around the village; it gives real meaning to the Harvest celebrations when they can engage in the giving directly in this way. If you know of any one, sick or elderly, who may like to receive a small hamper from the children at the school, then please let us know (phone 851267) as soon as possible. Also, if you would like to join us this year, the Harvest Festival will be held in school, and will begin at 10.00 on Friday 5 October.

Finally, later this month we will be taking part in our first major sports fixture of the year, when the football and netball teams take on the other primary schools in the area tournaments at Queen Elizabeth Community College. After bad weather caused the postponement of so many matches last year, the children are really looking forward to taking part in this event. They have been practicing hard in their clubs after school, and the teams are looking very promising. We wish them luck!
