1 Mar 2002 - MARCHING ON TO EASTER

At Newton St Cyres Primary School, we are looking forward to plenty of fun in our interesting run up to Easter. The children have begun their second topic of the year: the younger children are looking at things that are ?Up in the Air? whilst the top two classes are investigating their environment around school and in the local area.

With World Book Day being celebrated this month, we will be holding our own Book Fair in school from 6 March to 12 March between 3.30 - 4.00. As every child receives a £1 book voucher for World Book Day, they can spend this in part payment for a book of their choice at the book fair, if they are not able to get into the larger shops in town. Hence, it proves to be a popular event with children and parents alike, and it really helps to nurture a love of books for all.

A highlight later on this term will be a visit from the Rainbow Theatre touring company. We love to give the children every opportunity to see professional theatre, and so jumped at the opportunity to share this original production of the Easter Story. The Rainbow Theatre comes highly recommended, so we are really looking forward to welcoming them into our school during their tour of the South West.

On the sporting front, twelve children from our school will be representing us at the primary area swimming gala. The event, held at Crediton baths, brings together all the schools in the academic council for a morning of gentle competition, as the children swim in a series of races in a bid for a trophy and the title of Area Schools Swimming Champions. Last year, we put up a good show, but this year we aim to do even better with our team selected from class four!

Finally, we have already started looking forward to our Spring Concert, to be held at school on the afternoon of 26 March at 2.00. The informal concert will provide a showcase for our talented singers and musicians, including those who have just started learning an instrument this academic year. The concert will be a joint school and FANS event, with refreshments and the judging of the Easter Art Competion taking place. Do come up to school and join us if you can!
