1 Dec 2001 - IT'S WONDERLAND THIS CHRISTMAS FOR EVERYONE AT SCHOOL!

As you read this article, Christmas will be well and truly upon us at Newton St Cyres Primary School. The final rehearsals for our production of Alice in Wonderland will be underway and the children will be experiencing all the excitement - and the pressures - of performing on stage to a real live audience once again! Following the success of last year?s millennium musical, ?Moving On?, the children are really confident that they will be able to put on a first class show.

As always, we would love to see as many adults as possible for our afternoon performance at 2.00 on Wednesday 5 December, so do come along to the Parish Hall and join us if you possibly can. There is no admission charge for that show, and seats will be taken on a first come, first served basis. The production promises to be quite a challenge for us, but we are confident that the memorable songs and dances will make it one not to be missed. Certainly it has captured the imagination of everyone in school - most of us can recite great tracts of Lewis Caroll verse now, without even being prompted! And the costumes are proving to be something else ...

You may also like to look in on our Nativity service. This will be held in the church on Friday 14 December at 2.00 and it will serve to focus our minds on the true meaning of Christmas. The younger children will be leading the service with a sung/spoken dramatisation of the Nativity. Their simplified version of the Christmas story tells the story of the arrival of baby Jesus and the special gift of love that he brought to us all. It promises to be very special indeed.

A new venture for the school and its community this year, will be an early evening of carol singing around the village. This will take place on Monday 17 December, leaving from the Crown and Sceptre at 6.00 promptly. All singers and musicians are welcome to join us; we will be singing traditional carols from door to door in an effort to raise money for the homeless charity, Shelter. Do come along and join us, and get your Christmas off to a good start!

Among the other treats in store for the children this Christmas include a visit from a professional magician, Colin John, who will follow our Christmas lunch and, we are hoping also for a visit from Santa at the Early Years Christmas party. The older children in the school will be marking their celebrations with a Christmas Disco just before the end of term. It all sounds like a lot of fun to mark the end of an excellent year.

In closing, on behalf of all the children and Staff at the school, may I take this opportunity to wish you a very, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
