1 Jun 2003 - THE BEST TERM OF THE YEAR AT SCHOOL
As summer races upon us, we have had an incredibly active start to this very exciting term. Years four, five and six spent the first week away from home experiencing a water-based residential at Grenville House, Brixham. They had a wonderful time packed full of activities, including power boating, yachting, canoeing, problem solving, abseiling, orienteering and raft building. All of the activities were popular, with each child coming back with their own personal favourites and lots of stories to tell!
Next, the middle of May saw the end of key stage testing taking place. Once again, our children in years 2 and 6 approached these national tests with confidence and enthusiasm. We have a very positive attitude to testing in school ? the children get really excited about taking tests and our parents are generally excellent in providing the right kind of support without causing undue pressure, We already know that the key stage one children have all done well but we will not know how the older children have done until the beginning of July when the scripts are returned to us. However, we are confident that they will have done us proud and we have high hopes for excellent results again this year.
In the meantime, our thoughts are rapidly turning towards a new venture for this year ? a Leaver?s Production. With so many talented performers in Year 6, we felt it was only fair to give them one last opportunity to show off their talents before they left primary school. We have chosen Bugsy Malone, a rather ambitious musical for them to do, but I am sure they will be able to rise to the challenge and have some fun at the same time. We have decided to ask the children from years 4 and 5 to fill the support roles in the show and we hope to have a live band to make it all extra special!
Finally, we hope to have our swimming pool up and running within the next few days. We really value having our own pool - the children have the opportunity to swim two or three times a week and this really makes a difference to their confidence. Last year proved to be a little disappointing, with a series of maintenance problems hitting us one after the other, but hopefully this has all been sorted ready for the coming season; all we need now is some sunny weather and the fun will begin!
