1 Jul 2003 - SUMMER FUN AT SCHOOL
There can be little doubt that your school years are the best years of your life ? not if you are a pupil at Newton St Cyres that is; even the children are recognising this fact as they come round to the last few weeks of their school year. The last half term is simply packed with an exciting broad and balanced curriculum, if I may take a quote directly from the government, and no-one seems to be complaining!
The buzz of the last few weeks of the school year is always swimming and once again the children can be seen splashing around in our outdoor pool each afternoon, enjoying the cool waters. For some it is an exciting time as they gain the confidence to swim for the first time, whilst for others it is a chance to improve their strokes ? facing up to the challenge of the ones that they find more difficult but still having fun along the way.
In fact, we find ourselves immersed in sports and the expressive arts even more than usual during this term. The older children have had the chance to take part in the area athletics tournament held at QECC, earlier last month, whilst everybody will be enjoying the fun of our own school sports day, planned for Wednesday 02 July this year. Do come along and join us for the afternoon if the weather is O.K.!
Then, later this month, we have arranged a visit to the local cinema to take everyone to watch a preview of the latest cartoon version of Sinbad,. We have also planned a whole school trip to the Eden Project to give us something really memorable to look forward to during the last week of term.
The highlight for us though, will probably be our Leaver?s production of Bugsy Malone, to which all readers are invited on the afternoon of Tuesday 15 July (Parish Hall - 2.00 start). The children have been busy rehearsing the acting, singing and dancing for quite a few weeks now, and I am sure that they will not disappoint us. Do come along to watch it if you are free ? everybody will be most welcome and there will be no advance ticket sales for that day so simply come along!
