1 Dec 2003 - IT'S GETTING TO BE A BIT LIKE CHRISTMAS ?
Christmas at school is a lovely time of year, with never a dull moment at Newton St Cyres Primary. Rehearsals for our performances have started already, with casting completed and everyone busy learning lots of new songs and practising their lines.
Our Nativity this year is a musical version of the Christmas Story called ?Are we nearly there yet?? written by our favourite songwriters Mark and Helen Johnson. The children in Class Three are going to lead this for us, supported by our very youngest children in Class One, who are unbelievably excited about being the animals at the stable in Bethlehem! We have some fine singers in school at the moment so we are really looking forward to this musical treat.
The Nativity story will be followed by our own version of the ?Sleeping Beauty?, a new pantomime for us all. The main speaking parts have been taken by the children in Class Four, whilst the children in Class Two have the supporting roles as spiders and village children. As always, we have some talented actors and actresses in the making, and everybody has been cast in a role that will stretch them just a little bit further. The children are eager to give their best ever performances and I think we might just have one or two stars that will take the audience by surprise.
If you would like to join us for either of these shows, we would be very grateful as a lot of hard work goes into making them happen and it is much more rewarding to perform to a good audience. They will be held on consecutive days at the Parish Hall, and each performance will start at 2.30; on Tuesday 09 December, we will have our first performance of ?Are we nearly there yet?" whilst our afternoon performance of the ?Sleeping Beauty? will be on Wednesday 10 December. There are no tickets necessary so simply turn up and enjoy them!
One other event that you may like to join us for is our Carols and Christingle celebration, which will be held in the church on Monday 15 December starting at 5.00. We expect this service to last around 45 minutes, after which we will be going carol singing around the village, collecting for our Christmas charity. This has proved very popular in the last few years, and certainly gets us into the true Christmas spirit so do come and join us!
Finally, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year on behalf of all the Staff and children at Newton St Cyres Primary.
