1 Jun 2005 - FUN IN THE POOL
As we approach the end of the academic year, school is definitely the place to be! Racing along towards the last half term at school, the children will be seen splashing around in our outdoor pool each afternoon, enjoying the cool waters during the predicted heatwave. For some it will be an exciting time as they gain sufficient confidence to swim unaided for the first time, whilst for others it will be a chance to improve their strokes ? and to face up to the challenge of those that they find more difficult.
All the children have the opportunity to swim two or three times a week, weather permitting, and this really makes a difference to their confidence. We are lucky to have the support of a number of volunteers who come in to supervise and assist with changing the younger children, and a few brave adults who actually immerse themselves in the water to reassure those that need their support. We are grateful to them all - and also to Mr and Mrs Tremlett for their vigilance in monitoring the safety of the pool each day.
Later this term, during the week beginning 20 June, we will be holding an Expressive and Creative arts week. We have decided to devote the entire week to celebrating the different cultures of countries from around the world. What makes this particularly special is that we have chosen four areas that do not usually form part of our regular curriculum. Miss Couch and the children in Class One will be looking at the aboriginal culture of Australia; in Class Two they will be finding out about the music and art of Spain; in Class Three the children will be exploring the wonders of Japan, whilst in Class Four, the children will be looking to Brazil for inspiration.
Then, in a fitting conclusion to the week, on Friday, each class will be having a workshop with the specialist musicians known as Junkband. The afternoon will culminate with a whole school concert to celebrate the achievements of the day.
Parents and friends are welcome to come along and join us for any of these sessions on Friday; alternatively if you would like to walk up the hill and join us for the concert (starting at around 2.45) then we would love to see you.
