1 Sep 2004 - A NEW SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS AT NSC PRIMARY
One of the lovely things about being a teacher is that there are so many new beginnings!
Here?s what the teaching staff have to say about it!
CLASS ONE
I can?t believe that it is now my sixth year as reception class teacher at NSC Primary! This term, I am looking forward to welcoming all the new children into Class One, some in September and some in January. We will be starting the year with a topic called ?Food and Harvest?. As part of the topic, we will make a visit to Sainsbury?s and we will also be carrying out a variety of taste tests during our Science lessons.
Miss Angell and Mrs Edwards will continue to work in Class One, helping to support everyone in their learning.
HELEN COUCH
CLASS TWO
In class two we have two teachers ? Claire Birdwood and Catriona Nicholls. Between us we have taught for about twenty years at the school and every year we look forward to the challenges and successes of a new group of children. We each work for half the time in the class, bringing a fresh outlook and a range of different teaching ideas and methods. This Autumn term our class is working on the theme of ?Food and Harvest?, something of great interest in a rural community and always very popular with the children, as we undertake taste tests, designing and making healthy meals and visiting local shops. We are pleased to have the continued support of Mrs Hancock each morning, and look forward to working with Mrs Edwards for some of the afternoon sessions.

CLASS THREE
After a year of teaching the eldest children in the school, I have chosen to return to the lower half of Key Stage two, to teach my favourite age group! This term we will be focussing a lot of our work around the very exciting History topic of ?The Romans?. To get the work off to a good start, we will be making a visit to the Roman City of Exeter, where we hope to meet a Roman Soldier at the museum. It sounds like a lot of fun!
Mrs Baker will continue to work in Class Three every morning, and Mrs Kearns will be working across Key Stage Two in the afternoons.
GLYNIS HARRIS
CLASS FOUR
As a new member of Staff at NSC Primary, I am really looking forward to the new term and getting to know the names of nearly a hundred children! Once I have managed this, the coming year has plenty of exciting events in store. Our topic of the Romans is one I am really interested in and will give the children the opportunity to find out all about the way of life in the past. I am also looking forward to the coming football season and will be looking out for any future Wayne Rooneys!
KEVIN PAYNE
It all sounds like another great year ahead. For myself, this will be my eighth year at NSC Primary and I still enjoy every minute of it! We really appreciate the interest shown to us from members of the community, and we hope that you will be able to share in some of our many celebrations during the coming year.
