1 Nov 2004 - SCHOOL CELEBRATES OFSTED SUCCESS
Just two weeks into the new school year, Newton St Cyres Primary had the pleasure of opening its doors to an independent team of Ofsted inspectors. It had been five and a half since our last inspection so we were keen to share the many improvements that had taken place during that time and the inspectors were not disappointed with what they saw!
Community members, parents and children were given the opportunity to share their views about the school either through questionnaire or by talking with the inspectors and the staff all made time to talk with them about their curriculum leadership roles.
The vast amount of inspector?s time, however, was spent in the classrooms, observing the actual teaching and learning that was taking place. Whilst daunting at first, this soon proved to be quite an exciting time for Staff as they were able to share the very good practice that is the trademark of our school. The children were equally keen to talk about their school and why they enjoy coming here so much. Indeed, the whole school was buzzing with excitement at this opportunity of having their school acknowledged as a very effective school where very good teaching and learning takes place.
The school was complimented particularly on the very good levels of improvement since the last inspection with all the areas previously identified as weaker coming out as real strengths this time. This was attributed to the very good leadership and management of the school and the excellent educational vision of the Headteacher. It is particularly pleasing to find that the report acknowledges that we have a very effective school here, complete with numerous strengths and no areas for further development beyond those already identified in the School Improvement Plan.
The very good level of relationships throughout the school was noted as contributing to the development of the school community and all the Staff were complimented on their very effective planning and very good teaching methods. For the children?s part, they were found to be above average in almost all the subjects that judgements were made about and they were praised particularly for their very good levels of social and moral development.
With such an outstanding report comfirming our own judgements about the school, we are keen to share their findings widely and copies of the short report will be available from school for any interested parties. Alternatively, you may wish to visit our website in a few weeks time, on www.nscprimaryschool.ik.org where the full report will be posted before the end of the year.
