1 Dec 2004 - ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS ?
We like to make each day of Christmas really count at Newton St Cyres Primary, so, starting on 01 December, we get out the trees and the decorations, and set our minds fully to getting the most from the festive time of year.
This year, our first event is our Christingle and Carol Service, which will be held at the village church on Monday 06 December, starting at 5.15. We expect this service to last around 45 minutes, after which we will be going carol singing around the village, collecting for our Christmas charity. This has proved very popular in the last few years, and certainly gets us into the true Christmas spirit!
Next, on the following Wednesday, we are taking our youngest children from classes one and two to Pennywell Farm for a fabulous Nativity in the Barn experience. This is really something special, with the children having the opportunity to take part in a retelling of the Christmas Story, complete with real live animals and a picturesque setting. They also get the opportunity to meet Father Christmas if he?s not too busy and the visit ends with a tasty Christmas snack before the journey home.
After this, we concentrate on our Christmas production, which will be performed in the village hall on Wednesday 15 December, starting at 2.15. This year we have chosen an entertaining musical called ?Hoodwinked?, which is a lively version of the story of Robin Hood. The script is fun from start to finish and the tunes are simple and catchy enough to have you singing them in your sleep. Once again, we have some talented actors and actresses in the making, and everybody has been cast in a role that will stretch them just a little bit further. The children are eager to give their best performances and I think we may well have one or two new stars that will take the audience by surprise.
If you would like to join us for our Christingle or our Pantomime , we would be very grateful as a lot of hard work goes into making them happen and it is much more rewarding to share this with a good audience. There are no tickets necessary for these afternoon events, so simply turn up and enjoy.
On behalf of all the Staff and children at the school, may I take this opportunity to wish the readers of the Newton Wonder a very enjoyable Christmas and a Happy New Year.
