1 Jul 2006 - SUMMER FUN AT NSC PRIMARY SCHOOL
All the Staff and children at NSC primary agree that the last half term of the year is always a good one! Each afternoon, the children can be seen splashing around in our outdoor pool, enjoying the cool waters and making the most of the heat-wave. For some it is always an exciting moment when they gain sufficient confidence to swim unaided for the first time, whilst for others it is more an opportunity to improve their strokes ? and to face up to the challenge of those that they find more difficult.
All the children have the chance to swim two or three times a week, weather permitting, and this really makes a difference to them. We are lucky to have the support of a number of volunteers who come in to supervise and assist with changing the younger children, together with a few brave adults who actually immerse themselves in the water to reassure those that need their support. We are grateful to them all - and also to Mr and Mrs Tremlett for maintaining the pool and for their vigilance in monitoring its safety each day.
Aside from swimming, we have a brand new initiative starting this term in the form of a Make a Million Business Enterprise challenge. This is aimed at raising economic awareness in children ? working together in small business groups, the children are expected to develop a business venture that will raise money to help fund the end of year whole school trip. So far the children have thought of a wide range of business ideas that they will be working on across a four week period ? each group hoping to make lots of money and become the NSC Business Entrepeneurs of 2006!
The older children in years 4, 5 and 6 are also looking forward to this year?s residential visit to the Pinkery Centre during the second week of July. We plan residential trips each year so that the children can experience the full range of outdoor education activities, and gain from the social experience of living together away from the comforts of home. This year they will be experiencing the fun of Mountain Biking, Orienteering, a Forest Assault Course, Moorland Walking and Pond Dipping, all of which will encourage team building and help to develop social skills.
Finally, some advance notice that later in the term, on the afternoon of Tuesday 18 July, we will be having our school Sports Day. The athletics and race events will start at around 1.30 on the school field and continue until the end of the afternoon. Everyone is welcome so if you would like to join us, do feel free to come along.
