1 Aug 2006 - SAD FAREWELLS AND HEARTY WELCOMES
The last day of term saw some sad farewells as we said goodbye to our Year 6 children. Their last week was marked with a special ?Leaver?s Meal? on the Tuesday evening, as a final celebration of their time spent with us. The more formal Leaver?s Assembly followed this the next day, where the children were presented with their dictionaries, certificates and awards. Once again, most of our school leavers will be transferring to Queen Elizabeth Community College, with the remaining two children moving on to Exeter School. We wish them all well in this next phase of their lives.
The end of term also saw us say farewell to a very popular member of Staff, Kevin Payne, who many of you will remember from his fund raising activities on behalf of the CLIC charity earlier this year. Kevin has been a central part of Newton St Cyres Primary for the last two years, and he will be greatly missed by children, parents and Staff. He has made a huge contribution to the school in his short time here, keeping everyone amused with his boyish good humour, and leading the school to success in Sports and Modern Foreign Languages.
In September though, an equally lively teacher, Miss Claire Mardon, will be joining us on the Staff. Claire is a Newly Qualified Teacher who will be starting her career at our school. She has already spent a week away with the children on their summer residential on Exmoor and we have no doubt that she will be a real asset to the school team!
As I wrote in the May issue, we also said goodbye to Ruth Tremlett who retired after twenty years of continuous service as school caretaker. Luckily for us, her husband John agreed to take over responsibility for looking after the maintenance and security of the premises each day, which means that we are now looking for a cleaner to work each afternoon during term time. As this post requires someone who would be able to work for just a few hours each day, a local person would be ideal. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please do ask them to ring school (01392 851267) for further details once we re-open in September.
Finally, at the end of term we also said goodbye to two of our Teaching Assistants, Jane Kearns and Sarah Dart. We will miss them both, but wish them well for the future. Their positions are currently vacant and will be filled following interviews early in September, so again, do contact us if you know of anyone that may be interested in securing this kind of work.
