1 Nov 2006 - WORKING TOGETHER FOR SUCCESS AT NSC PRIMARY SCHOOL

Visitors to school often comment on the warm welcome and the strong sense of community that they experience at NSC primary school. They are impressed by the way the children are keen and enthusiastic about all aspects of their daily life, and in particular, they notice the caring way that they look after and encourage each other. For whilst we support every child to strive to achieve their personal best we value equally a sense of appreciation for the successes of others.

Team work is apparent at every turn ? Staff offer genuine support and guidance to each other and children are encouraged to act similarly towards their peers. In sports, whilst we play to win, we do not do so at the expense of integrity and we always try to maintain high levels of sportsmanship even when such is not reciprocated. Similarly in the expressive and creative arts we try to appreciate the individual talents of our artists, singers and musicians whilst appreciating that there is enjoyment to be had at all levels of ability.

We also try to think about the extended community and like to see ourselves as being an important part of village life, providing pleasure and a sense of stability with our annual calendar of events. Last month we had a tremendous turnout for our Harvest Festival and the older children had great fun distributing their Harvest baskets one inclement Friday afternoon! It is difficult to appreciate the pleasure that this small act of giving provides for our children but their enthusiasm in preparing and delivering the baskets is tremendous. Thank you to all those people who wrote letters of appreciation to the school, and for your kind words on the doorstep. Thanks also to the parent community who provided such a fabulous Harvest display and made this distribution possible.

Which brings me to yet another important part of our school community - our parents, who work so closely with us to provide the best for their children. FANS, our school association, is really thriving again this year, with a dedicated committee well led by chair, Sally Gallagher. All parents are automatically members of the association, which works to provide social and fund raising events for the school ? like the Karaoke Disco just before half term! We are really lucky to have such supportive parents; it makes a real difference to the whole school experience for our children.

Looking ahead, we have two dates for your diaries! On Monday 04 December we will be holding our Nativity and Carol Service (starting at 5.00 in the church) and on Wednesday 13 December we will be having our community showing of this year?s pantomime, starting at 2.00, in the parish hall. Please come and join us at either or both of these!
