1 Feb 2007 - OUR PARK SMART CAMPAIGN MARKS A GREAT NEW YEAR AT SCHOOL!
Here at NSC Primary, everyone has made a good start to the New Year, with New Year's resolutions abounding and plenty of excellent work being done. The children have come back with boundless enthusiasm and very positive attitudes after the winter break so the school is buzzing!
January saw us welcome seven new four year olds into Class One. Miss Couch has been delighted with the way that they have settled into school so quickly, and they have made a really fine start. This term, class one has the benefit of a final teaching practice student, Mrs Densham, who joins us for the duration of the Spring Term.
Class Two has seen some changes also, with several new children moving up from Class One after Christmas and a new French speaking girl arriving from abroad. The Key Stage One topic is one of their favourites, a story based project entitled 'Once Upon A Time'. It is a real pleasure to teach through some of the fairy tale classics, and I know that the children benefit from the opportunities they provide for links with the past and our traditional stories.
Classes Three and Four have also made a very good start to the New Year, with their humanities and creative focus being based around the exciting theme of communications. This topic is another favourite amongst the Staff, who love the cross curricular approach that it affords.
This February marks the third anniversary of our walking bus scheme at school. We have managed to keep a large uptake of children on our walking buses over the years and during the month of January we promoted them further with our Park Smart Campaign. You may have noticed our brightly coloured banner displayed proudly outside the school, aiming to encourage even more parents and children to make better use of the village car park! Our walking buses are often commented on by locals and visitors alike - they are still setting a fine example to other schools - and the health and social benefits are great. In addition to this, the buses really help alleviate the traffic and parking congestion around the school at home time. Congratulations, therefore, to the fantastic band of parental volunteers who make it all possible and long may it continue!
As we begin the New Year, may I just remind you all that we welcome volunteer helpers in the school, provided we have obtained the necessary CRB checks to safeguard our children. If you would like to offer your services, maybe one morning or one afternoon a week, then please call the office (01392 851267) and let us know!
