1 Aug 2007 - END OF TERM FUN AT NSC PRIMARY

The end of term at school is always a very special time of year. The children are rightly proud of their achievements, with reports eagerly taken home for parents to see ? never more so than by the children in years two and six, for whom the end of Key Stage SATS results hold a special sense of pride. Once again, our children achieved to the best of their ability in these national tests and everyone is very proud of them!

In spite of the inclement weather, most of June and July saw the children taking advantage of our outdoor pool each afternoon. The water was not as warm as it has been in previous years but that did not stop their enjoyment! For the younger children, it is a really exciting, many of them gaining the confidence to swim unaided for the first time, whilst for the older children it is a chance for them to improve their strokes ? facing up to the challenge of those that they find more difficult. This year, we took on some additional members of temporary Staff to help with the supervision of children and this proved most helpful. Particularly popular with our top two classes was the opportunity to start learning Spanish, courtesy of one of our teaching assistants, Marcela Roa. This was an introduction to their third modern foreign language and they picked it up really well!

As we reached the last week of term, it became time to say goodbye to our twelve year six children and three of our members of Staff. The children looked forward to their special Leaver?s Meal, held at the Crown and Sceptre, not least because of the rather special nominations and awards ceremony that ends the evening! They also enjoyed working on their special Leaver?s Assembly which was set in the future this time, based around a school reunion party. They had great fun, thinking about where they might be in twenty years time and they certainly have high aspirations for fame and fortune between them! We wish them well for the future and a life that fulfils the potential that they have shown so strongly here.

The last day of term was also a time to say goodbye to three of our Teaching Assistants. Richard Harris and Catherine Rackham both left to start their PGCE teacher training in September, whilst Julie Hancock retired after thirteen years reliable service in the school. It will seem very strange returning to school without Julie being there with us but we all wish her a well deserved long and happy retirement with plenty of opportunities to travel and relax!
