1 Oct 2007 - AUTUMN TERM NEWS FROM NSC PRIMARY SCHOOL

Here at school, we have all settled in well to the new term and it feels as if summer now is a long way away! The start of the year has been very busy with the appointment of five new members of Staff. In Key Stage Two, we have welcomed a new teacher, Miss Zandstra, who is working with us most mornings and each Wednesday afternoon, teaching Literacy, Maths and Science to some of our year four/five children. We feel it is really important that the children have smaller groups for these core curriculum subjects and they have certainly made a good start to the year as a result!

We have also appointed four new Teaching Assistants, Mr Johnson is working in Key Stage Two each morning, whilst Mrs Baxter, Miss Scott-Hake and Miss Jones join us each afternoon. Teaching Assistants play an important role in our school, supporting the class teacher and actively teaching individuals and small groups of children across the curriculum. The children are really lucky to have access to so many interesting adults, supporting their development and broadening their experiences.

We have also had plenty of new pupils joining us. In Class One, Miss Couch has welcomed nine new children into her reception group and we have had three other children start in other classes. In Key Stage One, they have started the year with a topic called ?All about me? which helps them to think about themselves and their similarities and differences. Meanwhile, in Key Stage Two, they have started one of their favourite topics, finding out about ?Tudor Times?. The children always seem to get a lot of enjoyment out of history topics, and this very colourful period never fails to appeal to them.

Top priority at the moment though, is our forthcoming Harvest Festival, which all the children take part in. Once again, we have managed to find some new songs to entertain parents and friends with, so we are looking forward to a good celebration in school. As I am sure you will know by now, all villagers and friends are welcome to join parents for this event. If you would like to come along, the celebration will begin at 10:00 on Friday 05 October and it will last for about an hour. . Afterwards, the older children will spend the afternoon making up and delivering harvest baskets for our friends in the community so do tell us if you know of any folk who may like to receive such a gift.
