1 Nov 2007 - WORKING TOGETHER AT NSC PRIMARY:TOGETHER WE SUCCEED

Working together is a really big part of what we are about at NSC Primary school and this, alongside every child striving to achieve their personal best at whatever level that may be, forms the basis of our school motto. Visitors to school often comment about the warm welcome and the strong sense of community that they experience as they come into school. They are impressed by the way the children are keen and enthusiastic about all aspects of their daily life, and in particular, they notice the caring way that they look after each other. Team work is apparent at every turn ? Staff offer genuine support and guidance to each other and children are encouraged to act similarly towards their peers. In sports, whilst we play to win, we do not do so at the expense of integrity and we always try to maintain high levels of sportsmanship even when such is not reciprocated. Similarly in the expressive and creative arts we try to appreciate the individual talents of our artists, singers and musicians whilst appreciating that there is enjoyment to be had at all levels of ability.

The good relationship that we have with parents really adds to our ethos and provides solid support to the children?s development. Just before half-term, Staff met with parents and pupils to discuss the children?s progress, taking the opportunity to set shared targets for the coming months. We try to be open and honest about how well children are progressing and work with parents to sort out any problems that may be apparent. Parents really seem to appreciate this.

We also try to think about the extended community and like to see ourselves as being an important part of village life, providing pleasure and a sense of stability with our annual calendar of events. Last month we had a tremendous turnout for our Harvest Festival and the older children had great fun distributing their Harvest baskets around the village. It is difficult to appreciate the pleasure that this small act of giving provides for our children but their enthusiasm in preparing and delivering the baskets is tremendous. Thank you to all those people who wrote letters of appreciation to the school, and for your kind words on the doorstep. Thanks also to the parent community who provided such a fabulous Harvest display and made this distribution possible.

Looking ahead, we have two dates for your diaries! On Wednesday 12 December we will be having our community showing of our pantomime, starting at 2.00, in the Parish Hall (no tickets needed). This year we are staging a new production called ?Panto Pandemonium? which brings together the characters from many different traditional stories in a light hearted musical. Then, on Tuesday 18 December we will be holding our Christingle and Carol Service, starting at 5.00 in the church. Please come and join us at either or both of these events ? you will be made very welcome!
